8 Harmful Habits Which Cause Damage to the Kidneys and You Do Them on a Daily Basis! Stop Doing Them Immediately!

The kidneys are one of the most important organs in the human body. They perform critical functions, and it is vital that they are in excellent health. The kidneys filter from 120 to 150 quarts of blood every day in order to produce 1 to 2 quarts of urine, which eliminates extra fluids and waste from the body. Some of the functions that the kidneys perform are eliminating waste from the body, producing hormones which regulate the blood pressure, keeping the electrolyte levels stable, keeping the bones strong and producing blood cells.

8 Harmful Habits

  1. Not Emptying the Bladder

Not emptying the bladder and retaining the urine is not good. Provided that you do this regularly, it can raise the urine pressure in your kidneys, thus causing incontinence or renal failure.

  1. Not Drinking Enough Water

The kidneys need proper hydration so as to function properly. If there is lack of water, the toxins may start to accumulate in the blood, since there are not enough fluids to drain them through the kidneys.

  1. Consuming Too Much Salt

Salt is vital for the body, but in moderate amounts. Consuming too much salt can increase the blood pressure and put too much burden on the kidneys. You need to consume 5.8 grams of salt a day at the maximum.

  1. Constant Use of Analgesics

We take medications too often, and in dosages that are too big. We instantly take a pill when we feel pain. However, all pharmaceutical drugs have a number of side-effects and many are harmful for the kidneys.

  1. Diet Which is High in Protein

A person needs protein for good health. Nevertheless, over-consumption of it, especially red meat protein can increase the likelihood of developing kidney disease. According to a new study which was conducted at Harvard University, the kidneys can be damaged by too much protein. Ammonia is the byproduct of protein digestion and it is a toxin which needs to be neutralized by the kidneys. When consuming more protein, the kidneys work harder, and their function might decrease over time.

  1. Consuming Too Much Alcohol

Apart from damaging the liver, the toxins found in alcohol damage the kidneys as well. Drinking alcohol in moderation will help you prevent kidney disease.

  1. Too Much Caffeine Consumption

Caffeine is present in various sodas and soft drinks and we consume it a lot. However, it increases the blood pressure and that puts extra burden on the kidneys.

  1. Ignoring Common Infections

Not paying attention to common infections like the flu, colds, pharyngitis, coughs, tonsillitis and more can also damage the kidneys. People who are afflicted with kidney disease usually do not rest when they are ill. Furthermore, people afflicted with kidney disease often get sick and are more sensitive to weather changes.
