Many scientific studies have shown that diet soda is far more harmful than the regular – sugar sweetened soda. The behavioral neuroscientist and professor of psychological sciences at Purdue, E. Swithers, has warned all the people who consume all sweeteners including no calorie sweeteners.

She found that 15% of American children and 30% of American adults consume artificial sweeteners such as saccharin, sucralose and aspartame.

“Many chronic diseases and obesity is related with diet soda and different artificial sweeteners. Diet soft drinks are perceived as “healthy” so beverages are becoming political issues.”

According to the Harvard scientists, the consumption of diet soda can damage your kidneys by 30%.

You can increase the risk of depression by 30% if you drink 4 cans a day of soda. The risk is absolutely greater for people who consume diet soda.

Cardiovascular Diseases

Columbia University and University of Miami conducted a study which included 2,000 people. This research showed that people who consumed diet soda were more likely to suffer a heart attack, stroke or die from cardiovascular diseases.

Metabolic Syndrome & Type 2 Diabetes

The research that was published in the Diabetes Care Journal has shown that the consumption of diet soda is connected with 67% higher risk of type 2 diabetes and 36% higher risk of metabolic syndrome compared to non-diet drinkers.

According to the Institute of Science in Israel, the intake of soda increases the risk of metabolic diseases.

A Less Protected Brain

The long term consumption of diet soda (aspartame) leads to an imbalance in the pro-oxidant/antioxidant status in the brain.

COPD symptoms and asthma can be caused by diet soda. An Australian research has shown that 16% of people with COPD and 13% of surveyed people with asthma consumed more than 2 cups of soda per day.
