What is Feng Shui?

This philosophy has been growing in popularity over the past few decades and interior designers all over the world are using it extensively. The theory behind the Feng Shui is that all things on Earth, both living and non-living, co-exist in the realm of the infinite Cosmos that pulses with chi, or the life force.  Chi represents uplifting, renewing energy that has positive effect on people’s health.

This means that your choice of objects including the position you choose for them in your house significantly affects not just your health, but your entire well-being.

And, not many people know that plants can be highly beneficial for attracting the Chi energy into your home.

According to most Feng Shui experts around the world, all evergreen plants emit positive energy which has beneficial effect on all areas of life, particularly the financial one. So, if you want to improve your financial status or increase your home budget, there’s no better plant to keep than Crassula Ovata, also known as Jade Plant, Lucky Plant, Money Plant, Pink Joy and Dollar Tree.

Except for being really decorative, this plant is also believed to be a pure magnet for wealth and happiness.

What Kind of Plant is Crassula Ovata or Jade Plant?

Native to Africa, this evergreen plant is today popular all over the world. It has beautiful jade-green leaves, which are very similar to coins. The leaves, which store water, are thick, silky and smooth. Not many know that Crassula can also bloom with small white or pink flowers resembling stars in early spring. The blossoms typically appear in winter and last until spring. The plant usually hibernates from October to April. The new stems have the same quality and color as the leaves, but they become woody and brown as they grow older.

Note: The leaves can get a pretty red color on their edges depending on the level of sunlight the plant is exposed to.

How to Grow and Care for Crassula Ovata?

After reading all about the amazing abilities of this plant you’re probably eager to have it at your home and take advantage of its benefits. We’ll show you 2 different ways in which you can plant the Crassula and care for it. The first method is to cut a small twig from the plant 5-15cm in length, leave it to dry for a few days and plant it in clean sand or in an equal amount of soil and sand. Water it once every 3-4 days, but don’t put too much water because it can cause the cuttings to rot. You’ll need to wait for a month until they grow roots, which is when you’ll need to plant them in separate pots with some better quality soil.

The second method is to use the Crassula’s leafs. Tear one leaf off the plant and put it in some semi-moist soil. After a month you’ll notice the leafs have started growing roots. When you notice the roots you can replant it in a soil for succulent plants (20 % humus, 40 % sand, 20 % of the houseplant compost, some gravel and broken bricks).

You don’t need to plant it in a large pot but the larger it is the faster it will grow. You’ll need to prune the roots if you plan on re-potting the plant and make sure you cut back on the stems to keep its attractive shape. The Crassula hibernates from October to April and during this period you’ll need to water it just once or twice. Keep the temperature around 10° C and make sure it doesn’t reach below zero.

What Does it Symbolize?

The Crassula symbolizes good luck and fortune according to many cultures which is what makes it a perfect house warming gift. It’s the perfect gift for someone who’s recently gotten married or started a new business since it’s believed to bring prosperity, fortune and wealth . Its leaves have a beautiful jade-green color that stands for growth and renewal, while the shape of the leaves resemble small coins, attracting material wealth and prosperity to the owner.

According to the old Chinese philosophy the best place for this plant in your house is the southeast corner of your home and each new leaf will bring about more wealth and fortune. The plant is a symbol of deep friendship, as its beautiful pink and white flowers symbolize the care and attention of its owner as well as the love and affection towards the closest friends and family. Care for this plant and it will bring you happiness, wealth and good fortune!
