We do not talk about calcium fluoride which represents natural element. We actually talk about synthetic fluoride which is very toxic product. However, the consumption of cheap tea can be compared with the consumption of junk food.

Large Amounts of Pesticides and Fluoride are Found in Cheap Tea

Many teas are not washed before being dried, thus non organic teas are full of pesticide residues. Large amounts of carcinogens pesticides have been found in some teas (even declared as pesticide free or organic).

The newest research that was published in the journal of Food Research International, has proved that cheaper teas have enough fluoride in their content, to put people under the risk of numerous diseases such as cancer, kidney problems and bone tooth.

Most of the cheap teas actually contain 7 ppm (parts per million), where the allowed amount or level of fluoride is 4. This is extremely dangerous situation because it stays for years in the human body, since it gets into it.

How Did Fluoride Get Into Teas?

The tea plants actually accumulate fluoride as they grow. The most fluoride is contained in the oldest leaves. The old leaves are often used for the cheaper quality teas. They also use smaller leaves that have larger amounts of fluoride in their content.

What About Decaffeinated Tea?

Caffeinated teas have smaller amounts of fluoride than decaffeinated teas. So, what is the solution, to avoid drinking at all?

• Initially, you should buy loose leaf teas and brew the teas from scratch.  Bagged teas are usually made from low quality leaves despite they might seem convenient and ready to go.
• Consume white teas, because they contain the least amount of fluoride. (example).
• Opt for organic teas. The methods of cultivation are more conscious and sophisticated. Most of the manufacturers use purified water for the soil.
