A new study conducted by scientists from Columbia University reveals that there’s an inherent connection between a person’s birth month and their health.
According to the team of researchers, the month of birth can influence the onset of certain diseases.
Doctor Nicholas Tatonetti , a professor at the Columbia University Medical Center, and his team examined the link between person’s month of birth and their potential health risks.
What the team of researchers did was study the medical records of over a million patients treated at the New York–Presbyterian Hospital from 1985 to 2013. Interestingly, their results match those acquired from previous studies in the same field carried out in Sweden, Denmark and Austria.
According to the team of experts, people born between the months of July and October are more prone to asthma, while those born in November are more likely to suffer from Hyperactivity Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).
People born in March often suffer from arrhythmia, congestive heart failure and heart disease. People born in May are less likely to develop chronic diseases unlike those born in October.
In the words of study senior author Nicholas Tatonetti, “This data could help scientists uncover new disease risk factors.”
He also adds: “It’s important not to get overly nervous about these results because even though we found significant associations the overall disease risk is not that great.”
“The risk related to birth month is relatively minor when compared to more influential variables like diet and exercise.”
